Finally Home

They sent us home yesterday!!! They decided not to send us home with any antibiotics!! Their feelings were that she didn't have an infection, but an allergic response to a synthetic material they used in the first surgery(gel foam). Now that it's removed they are hoping for no more issues. The cultures they took never grew back any type of bacteria. We do follow up with neurosurg and infectious disease in the next few weeks. She also did get an ear infection, and she's on drops for that. We also have an appointment with the the ear, nose, throat docs in the middle of Feb. It was a crazy week, but we're so happy to be out of the hospital!!

Surgery

Katie did well with surgery, and she was only in the OR for about 45 mins. She's doing pretty well, doesn't seem to be in too much pain, just needing tylenol. We are here most likely until Sunday or Monday, just to watch her response to the antibiotics!

At CHOP

I haven't been great with the blog, but I will try to update, and be brief at the same time.

We had to come down to CHOP on Friday, it seemed as if her right side incision was infected. They ended up having to take her to the OR to "clean it out". She did great post op, treating with antibiotics, however, the Left side then too started to look infected. They were watching it for awhile, but it never got better. They just decided this evening to go back to the OR to wash out the Left side . Sometime tomorrow, but no time yet. It's been a lot, but we're hanging in there. She's been a trooper, again afraid of anyone who comes in the room, immediately saying "ouwy, ouwy" , and "all done". The care has been great, but we're ready to leave. As long as all goes well, hoping by Sat. or Sun.

Happy 2011!

What a year! A lot of ups and downs, but in the end, we're all good:)
We're so thankful for our Katie, and how well she is doing. It's hard to believe that 3 weeks ago she was in the hospital awaiting surgery. It now all seems like one big blur, and I'm okay with that. Now seeing her healthy and back to her crazy self is the best gift we received this year! Her hair is even starting to grow back:)
Katie had a wonderful Christmas! She had so much fun with her cousins, and did love opening gifts. She was so excited about everything. She really enjoyed it all from her nativity set, watching the classics (Frosty was her favorite), saying Ho Ho Ho, and eating Christmas cookies!! 2 is a fun age:) trying at times, sure, but the excitement is contagious!!
She also loved the snow this year, last year, not so much. JJ put her in a rubbermaid container and that was her sled:) She also liked just sitting in the snow and tried to make "Frosty". We only lasted about 15mins. Pretty sure it took longer to get her ready to go out!
We had a nice New Year's Eve with some old friends and their kids. All girls, they just love playing together. The older girls decorated the basement, and we counted down around 9pm. My favorite decoration was the "Happy New Yeres" sign. Love when kids are learning to spell!!
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! Back to work tomorrow after 4 weeks off!
Again, just want to thank everyone for all the love, support, kind words, and prayers for us during this time. We're looking forward to a fun 2011!!!
(I haven't downloaded pictures off my camera yet, when I do I will post some!)
